Rocky Point Hot Air Balloon Festival
With the planning for the Rocky Point Hot Air Balloon Festival well underway, Puerto Peñasco continues its steady progress towards being an all grown up full-fledged, destination resort town. While it develops, it continues to delight those of us who live here with fun and exciting things to do and more opportunities for jobs and success.
Our sky’s will be transformed with color the weekend of February 24-26 with a variety of activities in the sky and on the ground both days. Held at the Laguna del Mar north of town, the festival is part of the Sonoran “Ruta del Globo” which is offering activities throughout Sonora. Individuals and families will be able to take a balloon ride – either tethered or through the sky, watch various entertainment from live music to jugglers and stilt walkers or just relax and people watch while you eat a delicious snack or two.
Organizing committee member Valente Cornejo relayed that each morning the balloon pilots will begin their preparations for a 6:30 AM takeoff. Entry, at 6:00 AM is free for all you early birds that want to watch the preparations and lift off. For the rest of us, the festivities will begin at 5:30 each evening and the entry is $40 Pesos ($1.90 US).
A Balloon Exhibition and Light Show will be featured each night as the balloons light up the sky. Tethered balloon rides can be taken for $300 Pesos ($14 US) and can accommodate 10 people. Balloon flights are $250 US and can accommodate 2-3 people per flight. Tickets for the non-tethered balloon flights require pre-purchase and a signed safety and liability form.
The festival promises to be a fun and colorful event for all so put it on your calendar and we will see you there!
